LISTEN LGBT+ research report. Shelters for LGBT+ homeless people in Italy
Abstract
International research has shown that precarious housing is one of the most serious consequences of discrimination and violence experienced by LGBT+ people because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC), while highlighting the inadequacy of policies and support practices aimed at them. In our country, only recently, on the occasion of the debate on the parliamentary discussion of the Zan DDL and the emergency experienced by queer people during the pandemic crisis, UNAR allocated some funds to finance anti-discrimination centres and shelters for LGBT+ people. In this context, the LISTEN LGBT+ project aimed to shed light on the configuration of the support system for LGBT+ people in precarious housing in Italy. After mapping the shelters present on the national territory, the research, through in-depth interviews with the operators and managers of the facilities, delved into the characteristics, types of users, approaches and objectives of the pathways offered, with an intersectional lens, in order to shed light on the needs identified and the operational practices adopted during the fieldwork.Downloads
